Getting a black belt is a big accomplishment. You put a lot of dedication into achieving This goal, for me, it took about 7 years. The Black belt means many things but what I look for in a black belt and try to be is, being a good leader, someone who is kind and helpful. And ensures safety.

Being a good leader means you can get things done while making it entertaining for the students. You must be able to get things done because then the students Can learn something and the parents get what they paid for. However it is also important to make it entertaining, if you don’t, the students would get bored, unmotivated, and distracted from the class. Then they won’t be able to learn anything from it. This is why it is important to be able to get things done while making it entertaining for the students.

Thinking back to all my classes in my karate life I have either learned something new or am practicing something I had learned in the past. I never had a class in karate where I felt like there was no purpose for it.

Another thing a black belt means to me is someone kind and helpful. It is important to be kind because a lot of people look up to you. If you have a negative reputation people wouldn’t trust you. I have someone I don’t like and heard some complaints about them doing things others don’t agree on. So I tend to avoid them. However, if you are kind and have a positive reputation people would find you easy to talk to and approachable. My brother, Bosco, is outgoing and fun to be around. People ask him for help and he helps others, ranging from helping to tie your belt to teaching you a whole form. And he doesn’t only do it in the dojo, he does it in the outside world too. I look forward to being able to talk to other people like him and make a lot of friends in the future too.

Finally, the last thing I look for in a black belt and try to be is someone who ensures safety. I like to think I’m someone who ensures safety. If we were playing an active game I make sure nobody gets hurt and protect them from any potential dangers, like corners of a table or the walls, things on the floor they might trip on… etc.

A lot of parents want to keep their kids (s) safe and protect them from any dangers they can get hurt from. That is a black belt AND a leadership member’s responsibility to keep the parents’ children safe.

In conclusion, I will try to be and what I look for in a black belt is, being a good leader, someone who is kind and helpful. And ensures safety. These are the main aspects I want to see in a black belt and what I want to focus on and improve in my black belt life. And in life in general.

I would like to thank my Sensei for teaching and helping me reach this point. I would also like to thank my siblings for being there and helping me with things I needed help with. Finally, I would like to thank my parents for bringing me here to karate, paying for my classes, and supporting me to keep me going.
